One day I received a phone call from an old roommate of mine, he called to inform me that I had a possible job shooting for a sports bar in Sacramento. He mentioned that a friend of his like a photo I took of his puppy Buster that he had hanging on his refrigerator. His buddy liked it to much that he asked if I would be interested in taking some pictures at a bar he worked at?
He told me to contact his friend and this is how my first paid job as a photographer started!
This shoot basically consisted of me taking pictures of the of the building and its interior, also of it's amazing patrons. Needless to say when the time came to enter the doors of that building I was nervous to put it extremely conservatively. The restaurant is named Bisla's and it has the distinction of being called Sacramento's Best Sports Bar! Once inside and immersed into the night life its very easy to understand Bisla's ability to hold this distinction.
This first task for me to perform was to take some pictures of the interior. Now Bisla's has the feeling of a restaurant with a very upscale bar, while keeping a sports bar with a night club type of alter-ego. Its very cool experience.
The patrons of Bisla's are young and old alike. There is no set "scene" it has a very open accepting environment. This being my first photography job ever which consisted me of approaching complete strangers and then taking their picture, was a little daunting considering my photography level consisted of me seeing a sunset and snapping a picture. So naturally I just dove right in and just started to shoot right away.
I was quick to discover, that the patrons of Bisla loved to have their picture taken! This made my anxiety dissipate quickly, and made the night a completely enjoyable evening. It was an incredible experience one which I will not soon forget. Also if your ever in Sacramento Bisla's is the place to be, get one of their hamburgers and enjoy the festivities!
